Yes, but that is because I did NOT accept the offer.
I don't need a label to make me feel worthwhile/important/useful/knowledgeable.

>You r not a moderator
Besides I know that "r" is not word in English & you still don't follow the posting Guidelines!

As moderator then please solve this problem

Many of the moderators were invited once they reached 1000 posts. I'm not certain whether this is true for all moderators, or whether all participants with 1000 posts are invited. I imagine the site administrator applies some discretion.

I, among several others, have been moderator from the beginning of this form of the forum. Prior to this there was no need to register yourself. The top N posters of the old forum were invited to become moderator.

This is the key, I think. The only thing one can do to apply for the job is to answer questions.

I don't understand 1000 concept Cool
Why can't this should be on number of posts for each forum?

If I reach 1000 posts, I don't think I can answer the questions from all forums. Right?

So, I feel moderatorship should be provided on forum basis contribution.
What do you say?

Just because you have moderator privs on a forum, doesn't mean you have to actively moderate it. You just surf your normal forums and help the site out where its convenient.

Personally, I only read SQL forums, Performance Tuning, and a couple of others.

Moderators tend to be self-policing. If someone went rogue and started moderating badly, they'd get a talking to or have privs revoked.

DID I say that I'm dying to become a MODERATOR? (Even I think so Razz )

May be you are not. When I joined, Even I too didn't think about that.

Of course I'm also here to "LEARN FROM SENIORS and VAST my knowledge in the field of ORACLE"

But I asked (may be a suggestion)
Why can't this should be on number of posts for each forum instead of number of posts on all forums?

If at all you think that it is not making sense then just ignore.

Well, maybe because "making someone a moderator" process looks like this:
-- This is how Vamsi would like it to be:
GRANT moderator_on_newbies TO vamsi;
GRANT moderator_on_experts TO vamsi;
GRANT moderator_on_tools TO vamsi;
GRANT moderator_on_utilities TO vamsi;
GRANT moderator_on_reports TO vamsi;
GRANT moderator_on_forms TO vamsi;
etc. etc.
It requires someone (administrator) to spend (waste?) his/her precious time to a lot of typing. But, if this "someone" (Vamsi in this case) is to be a moderator, it is supposed that he (or her) will do no harm to Forums which, perhaps, he/she doesn't visit often. Finally, it is easier to do
-- This is how it is now:
GRANT moderator_on_orafaq TO vamsi;

I have no idea how it is actually done; these are just my thoughts.

I think post count alone is not such a great criterium. The decision of making anyone moderator can be based on: the need for an additional moderator, the quality of posts, the tone of replies, the frequency of forum visits, ... to name a few.

But I'm pretty confident Frank Naude can handle this.

Yes, I can see about EBRIAN in this regard. Less number of posts but great number of significants.

Actually, I don't think Frank is up to the task Wink I reckon he should outsource Moderator Selection (at market rates) to an independent consultant who can devote the time that the task deserves.

Moreover, I think the Moderator Selector should come from a geographical location that ensures minimal activity on OraFAQ during times of moderator selection; GMT-7 through GMT+7 are chockers, so a logical choice ould be anywhere - say, GMT+10 to GMT-10. Let me see... that includes Alaska, New Zealand, Hawaii, Siberia, Nauroo, and.... ahhh.... the eastern seaboard of Australia.

I await a phone call to discuss my rate.

BTW, when will moderators get a raise? Salary is the same (more or less) for the last several years. As far as I can tell, that is. 10% would be quite nice. Smileys are so expensive these days.

Huh, yes, I've thought that on 01.04. (DD.MM.) (end of OraFAQ fiscal year) everyone gets a raise. How come I didn't get it?!? Also, is it true that "old" staff once got OraFAQ Visa Gold cards?
