Please note that this server will be moved to a new data centre.

Expected downtime:

"Day of move will be Sunday, November 14, 2010 starting from 11.30 pm and will be finished on Monday, November 15, 2010 by 8 am CET (GMT/UTC + 1 hour) at the latest."

Best regards.

Frank

I see we are back on-line!

OraFAQ is now served from "Europe's Greenest Data Centre" in Strasbourg, Germany.

Gee! I even didn't lose my OraFaq session!
Great job!

Sorry but Strasbourg is in France.
Never tell to a Strasbourgeois (inhabitant of Strasbourg in French, I don't know the word in English) he is a German, it is worse than to say to a Scottish man he is an English one.
Do not either tell out loud he is French (you can say it in a low voice) as he is Alsacien (inhabitant of Alsace region).

Regards
Michel

Oops, it's a German company anyway. Embarassed

In that case it's probably very close to were you are?

What advantages does the new location have, if compared to the old one?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure.
The hosting company trucked the server from Frankfurt to Strasbourg because it's apparently more cost effective for them.

Oh, so it was them who moved, not us.

I thought of the last migration (note: linked content is not a public one). It's been almost two years since then - how did the "sizes" (message bodies, dump, attachment) change?

I don't have exact figures, but we have enough head room for another year or so.
I just hope this server continues to behave itself Smile

Not really, about 400 km (but of course closer that the previous locations), I'm near Paris, Strasbourg is close to Germany, each one at its shore of the Rhin river, frontier between France and Germany.

I don't know about anyone else, but since this move I have never seen OraFAQ any faster than it is now. It's zippy!

Yes, I thought this was because I have a more direct access to the server but what is strange is that my route directly goes to Strasbourg then to Francfort then comes back to France router and reaches intergenia servers (and OraFAQ one)!
