Hi Experts

We have a scenario here where we want to upgrade the db server using ASM from Sun V40Z to x4600.
Both servers will have same OS solaris 10.

I wanted to discuss the steps involved in this ASM instance migration.

Without ASM we can simply mount the storage to new servers with same file system and install the binaries and start the databases instances.

I have some doubt in this scenario as How ASM instance will be transfered on to new server. Will simply connecting old storage to new server will do the magic or there is something else we need to care about?

Also in this scenario do we need to create the ASM instance?

Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

If your moving your shared storage from old database server to new database server; You need to create ASM Instance & db instance as well.

Thanks
